Did you know that the simple act of drinking water could actually help reduce your anxiety?

Most people who suffer from anxiety don’t know that it has any connection with dehydration.

Recent studies have shown that being just half a liter dehydrated can cause stress to the brain, organs and the body which in turn would result a person feeling more anxious and or potentially triggering a panic attack.

Around 60% of the human body is found to be made up of water with the rest mostly made up of oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium and phosphorus and other bits!

So to remain healthy an optimum amount of water is required by the human body to maintain a chemical balance. But if there is an imbalance in the water content of the body then the ideal chemical combination is disrupted which causes both physical and mental problems and for some of us can result in anxiety.

Now it would be very rare, especially in our cooler climate of north western Europe for anxiety to be directly caused by dehydration however if you are not drinking enough water you increase the risk of aggravating your anxiety.

So to avoid makingyour anxiety symptoms worse and be in with a chance of living anxiety free, you must stay hydrated!

And thankfully this is totally under your control….

In order to keep yourself from getting dehydrated and triggering or worsening your anxiety you need to drink at least 8 glasses to 200ml of water in a day. This will not only minimize some of the anxiety symptoms but it is massively beneficial for your overall health and well-being, helping you flush toxins out of your body and stay alert.

In order to make consuming enough water an easy thing to work in to your daily routine, make sure to keep it in reach. Carry a water bottle with you or have one filled and on your desk at work. If it’s visible it will be consumed, if it out of sight then it really will be out of mind!

Add some lemon or lime for added variety and health benefits or keep some fresh water in a jug in the fridge for that nice cool drink.

However, don’t drink too much water late in the evening as it may disrupt your sleep, which is something we definitely don’t want to do if we are looking to eliminate our anxiety.

So if you want to reduce your anxiety levels – drink more water!
